Deep Sea Fishing on Kauai
Kauai provides a great opportunity for deep sea fishing. Some of the fish you might catch include Marlin, Tuna and Ono (also called Wahoo) just to name a few. There are also plenty of charter companies available, all of which will provide you with the proper equipment, tackle, lures and bait.
When you’re out on the seas the boat you’re on will most likely be trolling constantly. That’s because the constant movement makes the lure appear to be a bait fish, which is exactly what attracts large game fish.
An important point you should know before heading out to fish, is that whatever fish you catch will belong to the boat – not you. Which means the captain will be the one to decide what to do with the fish. That’s just the way it is in Hawaii. If you don’t like that, then be sure to make arrangements with the captain beforehand.
If you’re not an experienced angler, then here are a few tips you might find helpful. Many times, reels will be assigned to each person on the boat. Try to get a corner reel, because fish coming in from the sides will usually get the corner first. Rough seas are the norm around Kauai and all the Hawaiian Islands. Motion sickness can be a problem for some, so before heading out you may want to consider taking Bonine or dimenhydrinate (marketed under brand names Dramamine or Gravol).
