Anahola, Kauai – What to See, Do and Eat

Anahola is a small town on the northeastern side of Kauai. It’s not a major tourist hub, but there are a few cool sites around Anahola that you don’t want to miss. You may want to just make it a quick stop over on your way to some of the more popular attractions like Princeville and Hanalei.

Interesting Things To See and Do Near Anahola

See the real King Kong – One of the more interesting sights near Anahola is Kalalea Mountain. But this is no normal looking mountain. It’s earned the nickname of “King Kong’s Profile” due to the fact that it bears a strong likeness to King Kong – or so many people think. I found it rather hard to make out. To judge for yourself, just head north of Anahola and look back at Kalalea Mountain.

Secluded Beaches – You can find a few secluded beaches in Anahola that you may want to visit. Two of the more popular are Larsen’s Beach and Waiakalua Beach. Expect to do a little walking to get to these beaches – they are secluded after all.

A Must See for Garden Lovers – Near Anahola

Whether you’re a garden lover or not, you will enjoy this. Between the 21 and 22 mile markers you’ll find Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. This place is simply spectacular. Na Aina Kai has 240 acres of lush tropical gardens including a formal garden, a desert garden, a wild garden, a children’s garden, a beach, and a bronze sculpture collection. They offer guided tours that range from 1.5 to 5 hours, Tuesday through Friday. To make reservations (which I highly recommend) call 808.828.0525 or visit their site: http://www.naainakai.org

Best Place to Eat at Anahola, Kauai

If you get hungry while passing through Anahola, then a good restaurant to stop off at is Duane’s Ono-Char Burger. This little hamburger stand serves an interesting variety of ono (delicious) burgers such as a Teriyaki Burger, an Avocado Burger, a Blue Cheese Burger, and a Local Boy Burger – that’s teriyaki with cheddar and grilled pineapple slices. Besides burgers they also serve Grilled Chicken, Patty Melts, Grilled Cheese, Shrimp & Fries, and Fish & Chips. Duane’s is located at 4-4350 Kuhio Hwy. Important note: there are no restrooms at Duane’s.
